How long should a relationship last for before engagement or marriage?

It depends on the relationship. Some sparks fly right away. But I would say in very healthy relationships probably about a year and even then you would want to be friends first. Dating second, engagement and then marriage and sometimes it can be longer. I think my parents didn’t get married until about at least seven years after they started dating. But that included university in college.

Who says you have to get married though? Relationships can last a lifetime without ever getting married. It’s not like a piece of paper is an absolute requirement or anything
