We should split radio into periods like we do for music. Hey then maybe we could have Radio Appreciation classes. I had a Music Appreciation class in 1989 or so, at which time "oldies" came from the 50s and 60s on local rock stations. But OTR to me has always referred to those scratchy and often loud radio shows from way before I was born. Always liked listening to those now and then, especially during the 80s. Now though, you can often find shows that are so cleaned up that it's hard to believe how long ago they hit the air.

My first shot at an honest guess of how most brains unconsciously gauge this was: Old is probably, older than the oldest surviving parent by more than 20 years, or if there aren't any, older than the questioner by over 20 years, all with a provision for the "20 years" to shrink as the questioner passes 50 or so. But after writing down most of the above, I decided to ask Gemini. I'll have to post that info in my next comment.

My summary of Gemini's response: According to an article published by the American Psychological Association (APA), researchers have discovered a highly predictable formula: For every 4 to 5 years a person actually ages, they add roughly 1 year to their definition of when "old age" begins. This is based on a 25-year study that tracked 14,000 individuals' impressions over that time. If I read right, the same study also showed that later generations push "old" further out than previous ones did at the same age, based on increases in life expectancy. Another 500,000 person study indicated that younger people more rigidly view 30 or 40 as starting "old age." Seven-day link to my chat: https://share.google/aimode/SLsQEnVzXN8QCrzgG

I used to know a couple in the 70s who told us that every Thursday morning used to go to the local nursing home to help the older people, some of them were younger than them.
