Do you prefer story over gameplay or gameplay over story?

For me, both story and gameplay mechanics go hand-in-hand. If I can’t get into the story, odds are, I’m not going to want to play the game. If the mechanics are too complicated, even if the story is good, I still won’t play the game because truth be told, I could think of better things to spend mental energy on than trying to work out overly complicated game mechanics.
