Lately, it feels like people's attention spans are getting shorter. What do you think?

I think this attention span decrease is actually documented. The echo chamber from algorithm issue is definitely documented. Short version: If you are shown more and more of what you just saw, you can end up seeing only a microscopic portion of what's out there. This is one reason I almost always surf Youtube in private/incognito windows, so Youtube can't get a fix on what it thinks I want. :-)

That’s why TikTok is so popular, people have the attention span of a gnat.

Wow, I went for 11 minutes. How is that even possible? :D I thought 10 minutes was the limit for regular accounts.

For what it's worth, asking Google AI, "Is there a way to measure attention span objectively?" came up with rather a boatload of references for saying Yes. https://share.google/aimode/UYYbBN9K3JgriybXX But also, I don't think the shortening of attention span is a deliberate goal. I do think it's a natural side effect of several things that have become popular lately.

Jasmin: TwitLonger, and others I think did that also. In general, I started thinking of limited-length text posts as an art form, and I confess sometimes I was proud of fitting something into exactly the limit sometimes. To make maximal use of minimal space also inspired much Twitter poetry, of which I produced a small bit as well.

At Doug Lee yes I remember during that time it was also a challenge for me to be able to shorten things lol. I did used to use Twitter a lot back then so I had to get used to that.
