Hey. I’m not from the UK, but I’ve traveled there a lot and still do. From my experience, assistance is solid. You’re helped from the moment you arrive at the airport until you’re out. When you book your flight, just request assistance, most airlines have a form you can fill in. They help you get to the plane, then when you land they pick you up from the aircraft and take you to wherever you need, Uber, train, all of that. My experience is mostly London to somewhere else, or the other way around. For example, if I go to the airport by train, I get assistance from the train station to the airport, then airport staff take over and help me all the way to the plane. If you need assistance, you’ll get it, no stress at all. It works really well. This is just my experience, and I’m sure people here from the UK can add more details, but yes, assistance is definitely a thing. Just make sure you book it after you book your flight or train ticket. I usually fly with easyJet, and this has been my experience so far. Also worth mentioning, the people helping you don’t work for the airline, they’re airport staff. Hope this helps.
