Whippets are calm, but they are not like greyhounds when it comes to the levels of energy, size, or even health considerations. He's probably energetic because he is still young, or it is the dachshund in him. Giving him a chew toy or puzzle can help. You can give your dog basic obedience training, keep in mind they are a little slower to learn new things, and positive reinforcement works wonders with them. Whip it's also love to run, so giving him access to a big enough area where he can run and play will also help.
