Joe, what you hear in this recording is an advertisement and payment screen system NYC cabs have with built-in access features like a screen reader. I've no clue where you live, but you might want to do a bit of research on whether or not such a thing exists there.

Hi Jesse, good questions. No, it wasn't a self driving car. Just an NYC yellow cab whose Accessibility features were kind of working. And I say kind of because the speech rate never actually increased. It was also misleading when it came to the total cost. Believe me, it crept up more by the time I arrived at my destination. Lots of πΈ to be sure, but it was worth it to me in that moment. I'm curious about cabs in your part of the world. What's this about sided people not having access?
Sahsqiah
Mya, i'm glad to have exposed you to something new. πΊ That technology has existed in NYC cabs for a while. And though inconsistent insofar as which cab will have it and when it'll actually work properly, it surely comes in handy when I choose to not go with a rideshare option.

QuestionAtl, π. That's funny but wrong on both counts. It was the system failing to work as it should and increase the torturously-slow speech rate. Mind you, that's torturously slow for the likes of me, who tends to have her screen readers upwards of 80% at all times... also, I may or may not have experience with speaking sharply to cab drivers throughout my life... π¦

VC, thanks for the welcome back. I've been in my feelings today about returning stateside to the cold and mountains of work, but i'll adjust.

πΈπΌ, the ability has been around for a while, though not all city cabs come equipped with it, and not all features work as they should at times. Still, it is pretty cool.
