I have been using a Mac since I was in middle school, and I’m in my early/mid 20s. I have genuinely never, ever needed (or found a reason to download) any antivirus software. Not only does the Mac come with Apple’s built-in protections by default, and every single year Apple makes it more and more difficult to do any modifications to the system that could cause irreversible damage, but it’s just also significantly less of a concern than it was 20 years ago. As long as you are smart, don’t click on links from unknown email addresses, don’t go downloading software you can’t verify, and don’t mess around with piracy or Torrance, you should be fine. And at least on the apple side these days, most antivirus software isn’t even useful in the first place and this has been proven. A lot of it is just bloatware that really does nothing other than take up your storage and try to take your money, ironically it functions better than most viruses or malware does at doing this. Same with all of those programs that claim to free up your storage and clean your disk of hidden bloat, most of the time all they are doing is just adding bloat from themselves and not actually removing anything you can’t remove yourself. I can’t really speak on the Windows side, but even from what I’ve been able to gather from things I’ve read and from people I know who use Windows, truly the best virus protection is your own vigilance and education. Don’t be dumb. Don’t click sketchy links, if something says that it will give you something for free that usually costs a lot of money, it probably won’t. The biggest risk these days isn’t even viruses, it’s social engineering. So the advice is the same, just don’t be dumb. Only download things from trusted sources, don’t send your information to strangers, keep watch over which programs can access things like your camera, microphone, and local network.

Thank you very much… I agree that the Mac really doesn’t need one
