chess playing guitarist
How to string a guitar depends on how it is made. Most have 6 wooden pins to the right of the bridge. These have a groove down their length. Place the strings, in sequence, along the grooves of the pins with the ball of the string pointing toward the end of the pin. Then put the pin into the hole in the guitar. Before anchoring the pin, pull the string all the way out to the end of the string. You can do this after all 6 strings are attached, or you can work with 1 string at a time. The string is run over the bridge, along the neck, across the nut. There is a tiny groove in the nut for each string, and the string is pulled poked through a hole in the tuning peg. Make sure that the string runs straight along a line from tuning peg to the pin. Once all strings are alligned correctly, you turn the tuning pegs to tighten the string.Wind the strings counter clockwise.Once the strings are staying in tune, you can use a pair of wire cutters to cut the excess string off. While winding, keep tension on the strings at the nut end so that they don't unwind during tuning. They should be a smooth wrapping. If you have $130 in US currency, you can buy al electric string winder. The name of the tuner is ROADIE 4 electronic string winder. It does the winding of the strings, sort of like a power screwdriver. They are available from www.musicians friend and other online shops like www.bananas.com.
