I agree it’s bullshit, so many reasons people get locked up and many of them are victimless crimes. Most people don’t know just how close they’ve come to being locked up as it is.

The USA has 4.5% of the world‘s population, but 25% of the world’s incarcerated population. And it’s not because there is something inherently more criminal about citizens of the USA, it’s because we are an incarceration nation obsessed with locking people up, especially people who are not white. It’s bullshit and it’s getting worse. Look at what Ice is doing right now with the internment camps.

For-profit prisons are a horrible idea. There’s so much profit to be made by locking people up that the prison corporations constantly lobby Congress for tougher laws and tougher sentencing guidelines. Absolutely nuts
