I responded to his comment before he had the time to remove it. I deleted that too so I didn't respond to something that's no longer there, and that Keys probably would not much like if it stayed up. Sounds like he might post about it, if he hasn't already.

I agree Amber that your mother should not have been forced to stay with someone with substance abuse problems. But I too agree that parents should try to stay together for the sake of the children. I don't believe it is necessarily about the parents happiness. The children did not ask to be there. The children did not ask to be a part of that family. Two adults took it upon themselves to come together And create little ones that should be loved and protected until they can leave the nest. I don't think it's fair that children's little nest get ripped to shred. I get it I get it. My father left my mother when me and my brother were little kids. I get it. I've known many divorced families. But unless it's about abuse, infidelity, or drugs and alcohol or even prostitution, I think parents should deal with it and stay together. They don't have to be in each other's faces all day. They can live kind of separately, but still be under the same roof. Mom or dad cannot bring their new partners over to the house, no no no. And the children will understand after a while that their parents are not necessarily together in the same way that other parents are together. But at least everyone's under the same roof and at least both parents are there guiding and protecting the children and the household. And when I say prostitution, I knew of a couple that eventually broke up because the wife wanted to prostitute. It was an unbelievably sad situation and they had about five children. The husband was heartbroken. And it wasn't like the wife was just cheating on her husband, which is not good, she was actually out prostituting and getting paid. It was sad. I loved that family.

I only disagree on one main thing you said, and it’s that it’s better for parents to stay married for the kids. As someone with divorced parents, with the complicating factor of substance abuse, I’m glad my parents split up. It would’ve been awful for my mom to stay with a cheating alcoholic because she thought it would be better for me and my brothers. I think it’s important for kids to see their parents happy, or at least pursuing happiness, than to have a nuclear family. Also, I think some people are naturally monogamous and others are less so or not at all. But yeah, if someone’s with me, I want it to be because they want to be.
