I use to think forgiveness meant letting people back in. Now I understand it differently. Forgiveness is not letting them affect you or your peace of mind. You don't have to interact with them, talk to them or even think about them, but the energy it takes to remember the stuff they did is something that you could put into being kind to those who don't hurt you. If they were to come back in your life long enough to apologize, you could just not respond rather than trying to summon the energy to be civil and show them that you forgive, because you're doing it for yourself so you can release the negativity. You don't wish them harm so not talking is just something that's best for both of you. If the person is continuously trying to reach out, then you may have to tell them look, I hear you but I don't think we need to talk anymore, I'm not interested. That's just me though. Forgiveness doesn't mean you have to keep letting them hurt you.

Yeah it's OK to forgive, but you should never forget! I know a lot of times everyone wants to go straight for vengeance, and I get it! 2pac said it the best when he said, "revenge is like the sweetest joy next to getting pussy!"
