Yeah, OBS is a very accessible choice for basic tasks. It has a ton of configurable hotkeys, and you know what? They’re global. Let’s say you have two scenes created—one that captures only the camera and one for the screen. In that case, if you want your face to be visible whenever you're speaking and have the view shift to your screen while demonstrating something, those assigned hotkeys will work even if you are out of focus from OBS. I guess this pretty much clears up your confusion about scenes. Also, the various media you want to take input from within a scene (like a camera or a specific microphone) are the sources for that scene.
