I have the same as you, along with sonada, AKA piper. That doesn't work either. I wish somebody could have gotten dectalk nws working again.

Yeah, it's a different version of python. the NWS dectalk hasn't worked in a few years. I used to use that a hell of a lot when I would read weather related stuff, reminded me of old weather radio stuff we used to have here. I have the Sapi version but that NVDA addon was just great cause I could match the settings they used to use at nws memphis.

I do have a Google Drive link to a folder that I made of a couple add-ons you can get right now that are compatible with 2026.1. Somebody does need to fix the old Eloquence add-ons though. I liked version 4.7 of the synthesizer, same with 5.0.

Keep in mind, I did modify the IBMTTS add-on a little bit, so if you want it to go faster than it goes, Wrate boost is your best bet.

I tried eloquence 5 just to see if it would work, nope. Lol. Sorry, that was one of my Favorite versions, partly because my school back in the day would supposedly be using it but whenever they installed openbook viavoice overtook it and I absolutely hated it, it was 6.4.4.3 I believe from openbook 6.2

Oh wow! I’m surprised not many people have actually taken a deep dive into finding as many versions of Eloquence/IBM via voice and compiling them into their own separate add-ons.

I actually tried 4.7 to see if it would work, nope. Same with version 3.3 of the synthesizer.

I forgot to mention this, when my school was using eloquence it was way back 20 something years ago, so it was all sappy 4 at that time, window-eyes. Every time they would install open book, viavoice took it over on most systems. Some of them it didn't and you could swich from one to the other but you would have to be careful because eventually if you did it too many times it would crash. This was window-eyes4.211 on win2000. Sometimes if I was around a system that it worked on I could get connect outloud to run and it would be like I was using jaws since that was what I was used to at the time.

Oh wow! It’s a shame we don’t even have source code to the synthesizer, otherwise we could mix stuff up with totally new builds. There’s definitely a difference in intonation between 5.0 and 6.1.

oh I know what you mean. Most portable devices I can remember from back in the day used v5, I think the packmate still does but I don't really know as I don't own one, never have.

It’s funny because version 5 cannot pronounce Siri, Liam, or Melanie, correctly. Those were fixed in 6.1. If I’m not mistaken, I think the old Braille Sense either used a version of 5.0 or 6.0. Same goes for the BrailleNote. Unless it used version 5. Oh, and what about the Humanware Trekker from 2003? I’m most certainly sure it used 5.0.

I know the braille note empowered along with the braille sense both used 5 from what I can remember. I never knew they came out with a sapi4 version of 6.1 until I hurd an old podcast from bct where Andre louie was demoing ninjam. The tg speech box sounds almost close to v3 if you set it to classic mode.

You’re right! It definitely does sound similar. I also wonder if anyone actually uses version 2.0 of Eloquence, even though it didn’t come with JAWS.

I never even hurd what that sounded like before. I only know v3 and up. Also, don't think brandon said this, but the speech platform voices don't work either with latest NVDA

Actually, that issue still happens at lower rates, just not as frequently. So for now I'm gonna switch back to espeak

I was just thinking you have to wonder how long it'll take sonada to be updated? Last time I think it took about 5 or 6 months before it was updated to work with the latest version of NVDA. There hasn't been any sort of major updates with that thing in some time. I have also mest around with supertonic and pockit tts I think it's what it's called, they work but I wouldn't Recommend them for daily use.

I found some more info about bestSpeech and crashing/speech getting cut off when using rate boost. Apparently, this is not specifically a 64-bit issue. With the 32-bit SAPI5 version of BestSpeech, this would also occur. So it's something to do with sonic and the audio buffer dying too quickly. So for now I'm sticking with IBM TTS or espeak. They are the most robust maintained solutions that are still fast and clear. For Dec and others, I think we'll just need to be patient. :)
