If you have the Be My Eyes app in the service directory Microsoft is one of the options and they should be able to walk you through turning off bitlocker. If they can’t help you let me know, I’ll look up the PowerShell commands but you will need your recovery key to turn it off.

It didn't slow mine down that bad when I had it on running Windows 10 on my one laptop back a couple years ago. I didn't mean for it to be on either but being in my Microsoft account apparently automatically did it to me. I always just use a local account these days for that reason and I don't use near as much ram either which is mighty nice. I'd sure get that thing un bitlockered by golly if it's making it run that bad, maybe the drive is a slower one or maybe it's a Windows 11 thing. Oh boy, that sure doesn't sound like fun what ever's going on.

Bitlocker isn’t as secure as you might think. One of its many failings https://neodyme.io/en/blog/bitlocker_screwed_without_a_screwdriver/
