As I said in my earlier comment, yes Woody Guthrie wrote the words to the song and he there’s a performance of it on Amazon Music but he merely recite the words in a voice voice narrative. He does play the guitar behind, but there’s not really a musical melody in it it’s just a narration of the poem. I think I don’t know who said it to music, but it was like I said it was just a narrated poem. You can check it out on Amazon Music.

Yes, it is a very powerful song. I looked it up also and it was originally a poem written by Woody Guthrie in 1948 that was inspired by that plane crash over Los Gatos Canyon according to my echo device, it was also set to music and performed by several other people besides Dolly Parton, but this is quite a moving performance. Thanks for sharing. I had never heard of it either.
