Atty Rose, I feel your pain there. I recently had to obtain a copy of my divorce decree. And doing so was not quite as easy as I had hoped it would be. So I do somewhat understand what hoops you will have to jump through to get your ID updated. It seems to me like it’s a bit more trouble than it needs to be. Again sorry you have to go through that but unfortunately, it’s a necessary evil at times.

As I said, we have to show ID when we vote. I have no problem with that. And men don't have to go dig up their marriage or divorce papers do they? Only women have to do that. And it is a pain in the ass!

Very simply, if showing an ID is a requirement to exercise your right to vote, then the government should be providing that document for free, just like a Social Security card. Citizens have exercised their right to vote in this nation since its founding without an ID, so what's the problem? At the end of the day, the state determines what is required to vote in that state. Also, when you register to vote, at least in NY, they require proof of citizenship, your Social Security card and a state ID. When you actually go to the polling station to vote, they require your name, address and signature, and that info has to match whatwhat's on the voter role. So, fraud is possible, but the person impersonating you would have to know actual information about you and more specifically, what information is on the voter roles. Also, if voter fraud was so easy, why do people keep getting caught, for example those Trump voters, who voted for him multiple times at different polling stations? It's hard enough to get people to vote in general, much less when it's going to put a target on your back. Remember, undocumented aliens are trying to fly under the radar, not draw attention to themselves from the government.

It is a hassle if you have been divorced for a couple of decades. You actually have to go dig it up. In my state, you already have to show ID, you just don't have to jump through the birth certificate, divorce, decree, marriage, license, ID, hoop

There is no big thing for a man, he will have the same name on his birth certificate and his ID. A woman, who's changed her name when she marries, must get her marriage license or divorce decree to prove the ID is who she says she is. Men don't have to do that. That's the problem!
