As far as I know, the keyboard should automatically hide when you start recording. At least that’s how it works on Android. When the keyboard stays open, it covers half the screen, making it harder to find what we’re looking for. If the keyboard doesn’t hide automatically, you can hide it yourself before starting the recording. I think this makes it much easier to find the pause button during the recording. At least on Android, this is possible.
