The Blind Tech Motivator

why is that? two things, social media, and the built in compulsion to win or be right at any cost. if we admit the other side might have merit, it feels like the equivalent of backing down and conceding. and that's what leads to that vicious cycle of point counterpoint.

I think a big reason for this is lack of empathy or willingness to listen, basically alot of people are closed minded and won’t change their minds regardless of what others say. 2 expressions come to mind concerning this. The first is, “Agree to Disagree”. It doesn’t often happen though, but people just need to realize and accept that not everybody feels or thinks the same way about a particular topic or subject. Ideally people should just understand that fact and just coexist peacefully regardless of their views and opinions. the 2nd expression is the one Dan mentioned, “Pick your Battles”. He said it well, disengage when you can tell a person is stubbron and is close minded. When you know somebody only cares about winning an argument and not listening, it’s time to drop it.

@Dannotations thank you for your comment and you have a really good point. And that is also something that I do myself, dis engaging when the debate starts especially if they're not interested in listening to the way I think about something, but rather just interested in me adopting their way of thinking only. It's important to be very respectful of everyone's opinions even if you don't exactly agree with what they have to say.
