No, I think because of wanting in however small way particularly in the past, to command more respect by use of the formal rather than a nickname. Like with a classmate I knew who I could feel bristling when called Jim: it was James:-) it’s all in the association; apart from names, the BRITs have a steamed fruit pudding dish served with custard called spotted dick!

Nope. I’ve known of black people named Richard or Riccardo. I don’t understand why men who have the name Richard, would instead choose to go by the name Dick. When you could literally choose Richie, Riki, Rick hard
