None of us arrived knowing our name, our country, or our religion. Someone had to teach us what to call ourselves. Before any of that, we needed warmth, food, and someone to hold us. I think about that when people speak as though we belong to entirely separate kinds of people. We learned many of our differences later. The need to be cared for was there from the beginning.
