The Donroe doctrine focusing on smaller defenseless countries in the western hemisphere seems to be a recognition that taking on China is a non-starter. Plus, the US is over committed in Ukraine and Iran and unable to produce enough hardware and public support for those wars, and is seen as a paper tiger at this point . I think the ongoing genocide and ethnic cleansing in West Asia has also destroyed any possibility of garnering support around the world.
