    I don't think that family support means lack of independence. I think if family is close then it's great. I would be all for others if they are living more positively if family is involved. But there are dynamics to think about, too. But whatever they need. I mean, it's just an extension of them. If you can, take the help.

    My ex used to be rather jealous of the fact that I have some family support, given that she didn't have that on her side. In fact, genuine appreciation is incredibly important for the foundations of any healthy relationship.

    I believe it entirely depends on you. The societal standard is, of course, that a positive relationship with one's family is indicative of high social standing and good morals. And, shit, for those who are conventional, it certainly would be. However, toxic families exist, and every family has the black sheep. I know I'm treading a little dangerously into bean souping, but it's not like these things are an oddity or a rarity. Hell, look at us in the blind community. I'm hard-pressed to think of a single one of my blind peers who has a genuinely positive relationship with their family. Ultimately, I just believe two people with opposite outlooks on this very issue are likely to be so fundamentally different from each other that long-term compatibility is unlikely in the first place.

    In my situation, I've always did things separate of family, I never got them involved in anything I did, even right now, they're not involved in my love life and I just prefer to keep it that way, I have reasons, good ones.
