Got it. In-line spell checking works in that GNOME Nightly, too.

Gnome 49 on fedora

Jose, Are you running Mate or GNOME?
Superdave1962
I now have the latest Mint Mate on both boxes. I'll speak to this in an audio ramble.
Superdave1962
I think the Orca list is the most active, these days.

Beyond the email list, has anybody found, or is aware, of a Lennox blind/accessibility community abusers?

Considering all the comments and reviews, I have decided to finally go ahead with mint mate for it to be not resource intensive and a good accessibility with orca

I tried the spelling feature in LibreOffice Writer and it works very well for me. I’m on Fedora 43 with GNOME 49. That said, I do experience some Orca restarts in certain cases—for example, when navigating tables in Brave.
Superdave1962
Since it doesn't work, I don't work with Evolution, either; LOL! T-bird is good enough. I'm disappointed in the regression re: accessibility of in-line spelling checking; as mentioned, it seems to be in libreoffice writer, t-bird, and firefox. Orca 49 is the element in common. It's fixed in the GNOME OS Nightly. Anyone else play with those?
Jose Alberto
I Don’t Work With Evolution, hay Prefer Thunderbird
Superdave1962
Wayland, in Ubuntu GNOME 25.10, is probably caught up with Debian Trixie; it likely comes from there. 26.04 Alpha may be around, for you to give a spin. GNOME Web and Evolution are still a no-go, for me. I wonder what will happen to Mate, when X-Windows is obsoleted? I think I'll see what the Slimt group has been doing past six months, or so.
Jose Alberto
I almost forgot: if you’re going to work with Ubuntu GNOME, specifically the LTS version, you need to use the Xorg window manager, since it offers better accessibility—for example, when navigating between windows and working with Chrome-based browsers. I’m not sure whether this issue was fixed in 25.10, although it most likely was, given that on Fedora GNOME you can work normally with Wayland.

I would say Ubuntu with either gnome or Mate is your best bet as mentioned by the other commentor. That being said, you could also take a look at PopOS with the new cosmic desktop environment. Supposedly there has been a lot of work focus on accessibility in that distribution. No experience with it myself though. And also, be aware, during the transition from the old ex Windows manager to the new Wayland has created several annoying issues/limitations with orca while they try and get it caught up.
Jose Alberto
Either one works very well, but if you want stability, Ubuntu is the best. If you want constant updates, go with Fedora
Ruchir
Yes, orca is mandatory
CyberGeek
Do you need to run the screen reader or orca, or any other assistive technologies?
