I don't know what year this was from, but your story intensely reminds me of the Columbine incident and portrayals of how the shooters progressed from thought to action. I'm glad nothing like that came of your situation, but your story made me wonder where the person you called Eliot ended up later in life. Not everyone who talks and acts like that actually commits violence, but it is a known pattern for people who eventually do. You would not be the only person who feared reporting what you saw either.
