I think this is very useful, especially for external mics that don't have a traditional mute button. Mics like the HyperX QuadCast S and SoloCast use a touch-sensitive area on top to mute and unmute. I've found that this kind of control can take a little getting used to, so I can see where having a simple way to check your mic status would come in handy.
