Thanks Doug, I think that is the best way to think about it, that there are multiple communities not necessarily based around blindness but split in other ways.

It wasn’t a troll post, it was a genuine question, I agree with you that communities are based on shared experiences but I also think that the experience of someone who was born completely blind and someone who is gradually losing their sight over time as they’re getting older are vastly different and require different support and assistance. And one word you mentioned I think sums it up, you suggested that communities should be based around like-minded individuals, now of all the blind people I’ve met on this app and in real life I can confidently say that there isn’t a single topic I can think of where all blind people are in agreement even things which you would think would be fairly uncontroversial, such as creating accessible currency, the NFb opposed that because they felt that it was demeaning to blind people and would mean that employers are less likely to hire us in future.

My memory about the NFB and accessible currency is that the NFB did not oppose the idea of accessible currency but did oppose requiring the change as a necessity at great expense. What I heard suggested was that it be done when other changes were already being made, to minimize the taxpayer impact. That was quite a while ago though; I don't know about anything recent on this one.

I've seen people with site who are in wheelchairs, and they have trouble getting transportation. Why wouldn't they understand us? I don't believe segregation is ever right. It wasn't right when it was going on between different people groups of color, and it's not right now in this instance.

Hi Tara, I think when it comes to passenger assistance, there’s definitely like people in wheelchairs who have problems with that side of things as well, there’s a guy on YouTube Doug Paulley who documents his experiences with assist staff not turning up and him being stuck on trains, I do agree with you that the challenges we face are unique when it comes to things like Accessibility for software which other Disabled people don’t have to consider and I do think there is a huge difference between a blind community and a blind culture.
