Opinions on the Apple versus OpenAI lawsuit

My opinion is that you need a better microphone
From a liberal/progressive point of view, I think this lawsuit deserves a fair and transparent review. I support innovation and competition, but powerful tech companies should still be held accountable and play by fair rules. At the same time, the facts and evidence should matter more than automatically taking one company’s side.

If the lawsuit actually ends up going in Apple’s favor, all it really does is prove something that we already know, open AI, and by extension their CEO, have absolutely no qualms with theft. Rather it be theft of Data, theft of people’s identity, or in the case of this lawsuit, theft of intellectual property. Fun fact: in the 1980s, when Steve Jobs left Apple, or more accurately when he was forced out, he actually signed a contract with Apple to *make sure* that there would be no intentional theft of apples IP. Johnny Ive, being Apple’s design head for almost 30 years, should have had to do the same thing. Apparently he has not. Same with the main name found in the lawsuit against OpenAI, who was the head of iPhone design and was at Apple for over 20 years. Either way, it is not looking good for OpenAI now

My opinion is that it's another time/money wasting case, almost wasting enough energy as the AI datacenters themselves. These big tech suits are just flexing competitions and "I did this first" spitting matches, and honestly I don't really care. I basically feel the same about most tech lawsuits, though. It's a big waste of time. Rather than try to do it better, people just waste money trying to claim their version of half-assery came first.

Add to that: Most end users don't really know what they want. They know it should work, but have no idea what "it working" should look and feel like. So we have lots of good ideas, but a lot of garbage too. Same could be said for most modern product innovation and iterations. Keep people updating and buying the same shit til the next version of a similar thing. Cut costs wherever possible, because yay cheap and race-to-the-bottom mentality and capitalism drudgery.

That said, openAI is not looking good here.
