Geeky question, any MacOS users who decided they've had enough and have switched to ESpeak? Or switched to it for other reasons

I've tried for a long time but have never managed to like eSpeak lol.

The same thing happened to me, but with ELoquence. Eloquence bores me after 5 minutes, i tried. Didn't work.

Wow, fascinating actually! I used to love a more mechanical voice that is not really available anymore, from the late 80s. The old Braille-n-Speak is similar to it but not really the same. People that are fast with eSpeak and similar voices can really get things done. More power to ya, I say with a grin.

What about TG speech box? It’s the refined version of eSpeak.

Not sure I know of that one.

Honestly, ever since the release of macOS Ventura I’ve just used eloquence ever since and have never looked back. I used to use vocalizer, but those voices don’t really interest me anymore.

TG speech box is a new project developed this year that can be found on GitHub. It does sound at least a bit better than eSpeak. Plus, I’ve actually been working on the project myself and undoing some of the changes that just don’t work correctly with eSpeak. It’s a very buggy mess when it comes to text parsing. It does still kind of sound foreign, but it’s at least somewhat better.

So you might know the one I mentioned earlier: My favorite voice from the late 80s, or early 90s even, was from Artic Business Vision, from Artic Technologies. It used the SynPhonix 215 card, which was based on the same chip that the BNS used I'm pretty sure. But VEST.COM, the TSR that made the speech, had far better phoneme processing than anything else I've ever seen use that chip. I could use that thing at its highest rate, which I think was about 400 WPM. It was so responsive that I could fly through an alphabetical list with the Enter key in a line editor and stop when I reached the i's without having to hear more than a tiny fraction of each first letter per line. By now that may be possible with some other synths, but back then it wasn't. It took Eloquence years to come close lol.

Oh yeah, for sure! Yeah, I remember you mentioning that one. As a matter of fact, somebody made a BNS emulator now.

I wish I had ESpeak or double talk on the mac. But, I do not know how to obtain them.
