I get it, I like tape hiss and vinyl crackel, but I never thought the 80s liked it, I just thought, it was a flaw they all got used to, and honestly I think it adds character, if you look at my profile, you will see some tape and vinyl rips
That’s just it though. The tay piss doesn’t add character by itself, you have figured out a way to use tape hiss to add character. That is actually different, and more complimentary to your craft. If someone makes a tape hiss aesthetic, more power to ‘em. My quibble is only with those who claim this was the desired outcome of the 80s, because to a fault we tried to avoid all of it in our productions, to the extent that we sounded very digital. The issue these days is you can’t correct the historical revisionism without someone being offended taking it as a criticism of their very modern art. And it’s actually far more complimentary to just admit that you have taken low fidelity sounds and incorporated them into a brand-new unique art aesthetic.
