Yes, I did not get the Apple one but I did get the AppleCare with Lawson theft. I guess it'll come in handy if you ever need it because it's possible that you could lose your phone at some point. I've never done that, but there's always a first time for everything. thank you for the tip for sinking messages.

Also, you can sync messages to iCloud, regardless if they are text messages or iMessages. You just go to Settings, iCloud, Messages, and make sure Sync this iPhone is turned on.

Yes, they did get rid of the regular Apple Care Plus plan, as part of there move to the new Apple Care One. I noticed that too when I was looking in my Settings.
