I have lived in cities all my life. In college I participated in the American Association of People with Disabilities internship program and a few years later got a job in DC. Friends and family in the area moved out within a couple years and I found myself bringing Chipotle back to my one room apartment, while doing lots of other stuff like pulling weeds at a local garden because I was attracted to the person who worked there. But still lonely. I started taking drum lessons which I had money from my job for. I hung out at the studio after hours and made friends and joined two bands which I bragged about with repetitive glee. Try a drum circle or less formal music gathering. I have met friends at hippy dippy events like contact improv or things like that. Though I didn't go more than once I actually know it was worth it to go because of the people I saw around and who I strengthened connections with just by being in weird situations together.
