Would this have creeped you out?

I think this really depends on the situation. You as an older guy, might not necessarily have been creeped out, whereas if it were a young woman, she might’ve been. Also, if the person who was being so intrusive was male, that might also change how you view that situation. I think in your situation it would not have bothered me, being a guy, and having the person helping/being a little bit forward, be a woman, that’s okay. You’re unlikely to be in a particularly bad situation with that combination. Reverse those roles, and it’s an older guy being solicitous with a young woman, and the game completely changes.

It was near Christmas of 1998, and the temp was near 0° F. A lady knocked on my door and asked if she could use my phone. I grabbed my cordless phone and handed it out the screen door to her. I closed and locked the door, but she picked the latch and came in. It was very very cold, so I just directed her toward the couch just inside my door. I was thinking that since this is a secure building, I probably didn't have anything to worry about. She pressed 2 buttons on the phone, put it down and started walking through my apartment. That's when I noticed that my guide dog Sandy was not in the apartment with us. She asked me to get her a drink of water, and told me to be sure to take my time. When she left, she had taken several things, but I didn't know it at the time. Later that night, she and someone that she said was her brother came back and robbed my neighbor at gunpoin. So yeah, I'm a bit leary.

Secure buildings don't mean anything. You should see how many people just open the door in my building, just because someone taps on it. I'm glad you weren't hurt. When I still had a landline, I didn't allow strangers to use it, partly because of the possibility of being robbed or hurt.
