This is so good! I have been wanting this for like ever now, ever since the original addon came out. But this one is even better!

Tht add-on is a litteral joke! BTW don't forget to download the Berdock packages so that your languages are recognized and voices actually show up! Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ybK_moIxHDgybYRfF222BC0XTBU7Xp2y/view?usp=sharing

Oh that's cool, saw that on Telegram as well, since the original Google TTS NVDA thing was open source, I think it would be a good idea to also make this open source, make the Windows code under MIT, and just add a third-party licenses text file that explains that Google's code is under their licenses and is under their ownership. Josh Kennedy did a similar thing with his SAPI synthesizers.

That's honestly the shittiest excuse for not open sourcing something I've ever heard, and that's saying something, since Liam Erven gave some weird excuses.

Apps are closed. ROM is closed. Stuff's closed. In the past as I had things FOS I used to get repports and stuff from users of other mods I couldn't control that were closed sourced. I've been in the ROM world, not just in the blind community. I know, from there, that once you release code in the hands of shit people, you're compromizing the software. Happened with ROM resources, happened with things. I've got experiences from spaces larger than the blind community. And I don't care about Liam Erven, I simply care about making sure users actually won't install unwanted shit alternatives with keyloggers on them or broken pipeline. This port's sensible.

You can call it shitty excuse all you want, I call it integrity and security. It's a TTS pipeline that receives messages from your SR for 1. For 2, the port is sensible itself. Like I said PPL could install an alternative forked by who knows whom and break their speech just because they changed what they shouldn't change. Been in the ROM world like I said. I can give you all you want if you yourself come and ask me to prove how the thing works to you or all kinds of shit, hell I can give you the source to inspect it before installing for a limited amount of time, but I won't make the tool itself FOS because I've been through shit. Fear? It's not fear it's integrity.

Besides, we live in an age where AI can rip your code to pieces if you ask it to, though I don't need to tell you that since, well, how else did you make this thing.

Exactly, so Ronan is literally just making an ass out of himself for absolutely no gain at all. Might as well open source the bastard and be done with it, after this, that’s the only way he will be able to gain any more integrity since he wants to be stupid on here.

That’s awesome, so yeah, Ronan’s excuse falls flat, and when he said about little shits, that’s just people being people, not an excuse to keep something proprietary. Oh, and you watch him make a rant about this on his telegram channels, he did that once with someone else, he’s in his 20s but he sometimes acts like Mayowa 2.0 lol

The fact that your software itself is secure, I know your software is secure. You can implement all you want though as long as you allow others to fork the project. Forking the project means having full access even to the security you implemented. Full access means modifying or deleting that security. Do I have to spell it out? We can be skilled and secure all we want as long as someone else has the power to remove it and resell it as closed source. It's intent, not litteral security. And forking means they are creating their own version of the project, not impacting your project. You clearly do not understand how this shit works, so actually do your research, because you look like the dumbest fucker I’ve ever known.

And what if something, God forbid, was to happen to you that meant you couldn't develop the software anymore. Ever heard the song My Grandfather's Clock? And it stopped, short, never to go again, when the old man died. Would you not want something you're extremely proud of to keep working and pass the torch along so that the project can continue to be enjoyed, maintained and developed long after you're gone?

This is what happens when we don't understand consequence and we think so high level. The consequence of a fork isn't just a random open sourced Github fork! Ever thought that someone could fork your project, delete their Github account or cancel the fork after having downloaded the source? Many things can happen. These two just won't understand consequence and how this world really works. I made sure they can't interact here for the way they talked. I never even cursed anyone, yet he makes me a fucker? Such a kunt he is!

Why are people pushing an author to open-source a project instead of enjoying the ability to use the program for free? I grant that inspection of code is sometimes of value; but also, we learn who to trust by what they do, with or without source. I've put out both open-source and closed-source projects over the last 35 years or so myself. Authors can make choices about what they do. Users can choose to use it or not. Users pushing volunteer authors is usually a losing proposition I think. As for Josh Kenedy, I've watched him poke fun at major icons of the NVDA community like Joseph Lee, which did not serve to make me respect Mr. Kenedy much even though I don't know him personally. These are just thoughts of mine; I'm not angry or even keyed up over here, just a bit surprised at the tone of this conversation.

The other half my comment, which I started then got sidetracked from lol: For an independent application, the author can choose the license and thus the distribution terms, or even write an original license lol. There is a slight uniqueness for NVDA add-ons though: The code that NVDA loads into itself as an add-on is covered by GNU version 2, and thus must include published source code. I once had to convince a major telecommunications company of that one when I was contracted to write an add-on actually; only time I was ever paid to write NVDA code. In any case, if your product is just an app, you can pick what to include. If your product is an add-on or includes one though, you do have to open-source the code that NVDA runs.

Though the add-on is just a plugin. It can't do anything without the app.
