So I have the premium app and it had all empty chat rooms so I think people just don't utilize it.

That's just so bizarre. It seems strange to me that not even one person would utilize them out of the hundreds of people who probably have the app.

The library originated on Book Serve in the early 2000s. That's where Sero got the content from until about 2007. After book serve was retired, that's when the community diverged, and multiple repositories formed. Notably those different groups all have people who contribute to growing their collection, and their are people who share content between the different groups. Sero has never contributed content, free hosting, or donations to the communities who make this content available. It has only ever acted as a leach. If Sero is shut down due to lack of funds, the content is still available for free. If communities like audio vault shut down due to lack of donations for covering their hosting costs, then Sero gets no new content.

That’s the same answer everybody else has been trying to get from Sero. We don’t know why they charge everybody for stuff that isn’t even theirs. There’s a small community within the audio vault server that describe movies. They call them audio vault originals. If you go looking on Sero you will find it on there. And the narrator specifically say that it’s been described for the audio vault community for free. There is no reason for them to have those tracks when they were made for the community by the community for free. Audio Vault has always been open on where they got a lot of the catalogue when they first started. It came from blind mice. But after that they started getting their own content. I know that for sure.

The TV shows on blind mice Mart were from the group that continued in 2007 after book serve. A single individual was handling a good bulk of recording the television broadcast in the UK, and hosting all that content from himself and others through send space using multiple send space pro accounts which he paid for out-of-pocket. He did this for over 10 years, until I think it was 2018 when he found that he was for various reasons unable to continue with that endeavor. The links that were posted by blind mice to the TV shows were the links to this person's files on send space. They were not making money off of it, and as far as I know the person hosting was fine with blind mice reposting his links and making them available publicly. The links on blind mice were removed when this person canceled their send space pro accounts. By that time, I believe it was around five or six accounts, at $20 each, so you can imagine the expense that that was for this one person for all that time. As far as some of the files floating around there having issues, it is totally possible. Back in the day book serve enforced a rule that all content uploaded to it had to be in OGG vorbis format. Many of the movies and TV shows that were ripped before 2007 that you find now on sites where therefore originally in OGG format, and converted to MP3. We are talking several thousand just for the movies, and many more for the shows. This was the reason for the demand for OGG support in devices for blind people existed during the early 2000s, because thousands of them were getting content through book serve. I've come across examples of files where not only can you noticeably here the difference in sound quality between the original OGG and the converted MP3 files that are available now, but when you look at those MP3 files, they might have issues with for example ending prematurely like Doug mentioned. For example, I saw a copy of gone with the wind floating around there that had a whole section cut out of it, and it seemed corrupted. Looking at the original OGG, it was clear to me what happened. The original file was created with some ancient version of OGG vorbis, something like 0.9 I believe, and it was a rare example of someone using chapter marks to specify where the second part of the film, after the intermission begins. Modern players for whatever reason did not like that file, and I could imagine that whoever converted it to MP3 without checking to make sure it was intact, didn't realize what was going on. I had to use FFMPEG to extract the chapters separately, as it was the only thing that could read the ladder half of the file.

You can find that specific track on audio vault. You need to download the version that says Titanic US new description. I think it’s an old rip I created from iTunes.

Oh wow! I'm at work at the moment but I will check it out when I am home. If it's the James Cameron narration, that would be incredible. When you say you ripped it from iTunes, do you mean you got it from the iTunes Store? The version on the iTunes Store would be the version that's on the various streaming services and on the 2012 Blu-ray that I own. That's a good version as well, and is my preferred version when listening. There are also versions from the UK. The particular version I'm referring to though was only ever produced on VHS in the 90s, and had a very limited release. It was mainly available through libraries, though it could be purchased at that time. It was co-narrated by James Cameron and actress Angie Dickinson. As far as I know, it's the only example of the director and writer of a film providing the narration for audio description. This is a news article talking about it when it was released. https://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/News/9910/06/showbuzz/

Yeah I grabbed it off of the iTunes Store. iTunes has two different versions. I’m pretty sure it’s the one you’re talking about because there’s two different narrators and it’s only available in stereo. The other track that you’re referring to the streaming services like to carry is a 5.1 track that I’m assuming got produced at a later date with only one narrator. Paramount will occasionally put up the dual narrated track as well. When they have it in rotation. I was lucky enough to grab a high-quality version from Paramount+. So if you ever actually want the rip itself, send me a PM on here or you can just send me a message. I’m pretty sure you know who I am

Wow, I'm really excited now. I'm definitely going to check it out when I'm home and report back. I kind of assumed that was just something that had been lost, but maybe whoever had the rights to that version was able to put it up there. Thank you so much for letting me know and for all the work you do.

Yeah, please report back as I’ve never seen the film and wouldn’t know who is who. But I really do hope this is the version you’re looking for.

If it is the version narrated by James Cameron, I would definitely appreciate the original rip without the re-encode, but I will first check and let you know. You probably already have it, but if you don't and Wood like the DTS master audio description from the 2012 Blu-ray I can get that to you as I own it and ripped it myself.

I have the Cameron narration of Titanic in two .ogg files, but both are monaural. I don't think they clip. I don't actually know where they came from, and it was cool to see the history of this rendition in this thread. If you're looking for a stereo file set though, I've never seen that and didn't know it existed.
