I must add here that I have forgiven my mum for this.

Here's where I struggle. If I can't feel that I can put up a Christmas tree, does that make me stupid? And if someone does say to me, you can't blow your nose or shower or swim or have sex or feed myself, and they are kind, should I tell them they're a piece of crapfor even implyingthat and that they'r stupider than me and that I should never talk to them again? I hate the judgment in this community. It's so discouraging.

If I got fired up and on my soap box and spoke my ever loving mind about how I am blind and not stupid, most times I imagine I'd get put in my place, very hard, and very fast. And if I say I can't drive, the other camp, the blind people, would say, there is no such thing as I can't.

Someone was once worried about me being able to take a bath successfully because the bath didn’t have any handrails.

Well, I’ve definitely been told that I can’t drive, which is a logical thing, because when you’re blind, you can’t really drive, because you can’t see the road. But the not so good thing that I’ve been told us that I may never get a self driving car. I mean, I get it, they are expensive and they’re probably not ready for testing yet, but still. I would rather be able to have a self driving car than drive anyways.

Unfortunately, in my country, a lot of people seem to think that because we’re blind, we’re somehow unaware of the bad things happening in society, such as poverty, theft, prostitution, and other social issues. It’s almost as if they believe blind people are somehow incapable of doing anything wrong or behaving in an immoral or inhumane way. One of the most common things that happens when I’m walking down the street is that people ask me to pray for them. Honestly, I find it ridiculous. Being blind doesn’t make someone inherently more innocent, more moral, or more spiritually gifted than anyone else. We’re just people, like everyone else.
