In the case of WhatsApp, they make their audio files smaller because they handle billions of messages each day. And they also try to make them smaller so it doesn't eat through people's data plans who have limited data plans. The Signal messaging app has really good audio like what you have over here on Ramblio. And Facebook messenger audio is pretty good too, but that doesn't live on your phone like WhatsApp audio since it basically streams from the Meta platform when you open an audio file.
WhatsApp is all about privacy, so all of those audio files live on your phone once your phone has downloaded them and the WhatsApp servers delete them. So that's another reason that they're smaller which of course compromises audio quality a bit. Then they try to put their filters on top of it to help hide the fact that the audio is a little compromised and of course to cut out background noise and things like that.

yeah. Whatsapps audio is not the best. Even worst when talking on calls. The only app that lets you have this qualitty of audio when talking is teamtalk. I have not used face time but as far as I can tell teamtalks always untop.

At Gordon that's good information to know about WhatsApp and their messages. I have used Signal before and also really like their audio quality but unfortunately hardly anyone in my contacts uses this app. Everyone usually goes for WhatsApp. Telegram also has great audio quality but it's extremely inaccessible with voiceover.

Yes, signal is really good but not many people use it. On Signal your videos can be longer, your calls are clearer, voice messages are clearer so it's really a good app. Signal is the app that people use when they want absolute privacy. With WhatsApp your messages are encrypted, but Meta can see data associated with your account. With Signal they get nothing.

And Signal even has username support which WhatsApp is supposed to be getting sometime this year. That's a way to communicate with people without them having to have your actual phone number.

At Gordon Yes usernames are one of the things that I really like about Signal. I'm looking forward for that to be implemented on WhatsApp.
