You're only now starting to wonder? Scientists from across the spectrum — biologists, physicists, meteorologists, geologists and more — have been warning of global warming for decades. And now we have politicians rolling back initiatives and pulling us out of accords that, even if everyone followed to the letter, still wouldn't undo the damage that has been done. The biggest help that we gave to the environment was during the pandemic, when people weren't driving or using many manufacturing facilities compared to normal, but as soon as people could return to their lives, everything went back to the way it was. I try not to think about it because I don't have the power to make systemic change, but I do what I can and am planning to make more changes when I can afford to, like buying my family a more eco-friendly car. Reduce, reuse, recycle is a motto more people should live by.
