My god i'm absolutely shocked. I called it on yesterday that something like this was gonna end up being available and now look at this! Now I just have to wonder, what's next? An emulated dectalk express? The only thing I see so far that this doesn't do very well is deal with exclamation marks like what the one Stephen Hawking's did, but i'm sure that could be fixed in an update. The fact that you can check for updates for it is great as well.

This is because this is a build from 1987, so it’s not the exact one that he used, nor is it the original. Too bad there aren’t any other versions of the engine that exist, at least not yet that have been ported over.

That makes sence. One of my friends is hopeing somebody could get around to making a version of dectalk1.8 available for NVDA, he really wants to mes with that

That would be awesome! 1.8 or 2.0. I’m still trying to decide which version I like best, 3.0 which can be found on the DTC03 hardware, or 4.0. Those are definitely my top versions of DECTalk.

Did y'all see that Amiga NVDA driver? It's buggy when spelling text, but amazed it works at all. And yep, it's been a crazy synth month for NVDA. You can find it in the DECtalk Archive.

Yeah, I actually have it installed. Yeah it is quite buggy, and sometimes it tends to skip over some text. At least it’s not one of those that will slur when you speed it up though.

Then there's SharpVox. I think retroBunn's addon is more full featured, but and it sounds promising. The dev of sharpvox also put out an addon with a newer version of the synth though it's mostly a test addon for now.

I mean, I’m a mac user but I’m very impressed with what you all are doing to create these old synthesizers. If I could have Doubletalk on my mac I would. Never been a fan of Eloquence, and I do like the new voices, but Doubletalk as I remember them were very responsive and understandable. Anyway this is about you guys on Windows but I am just very impressed you all are creating this stuff.

There actually is DoubleTalk for iOS now. You can get it using the TestFlight app, but you have to import your rom. I tried to do that, it functions in the app, but it won’t appear for me in voiceover settings. I got it off of the newly available NVDA addon. it needs a binary file.

Yeah. DoubleTalk is not even appearing in my settings at all. It keeps saying that the voices are not ready to use with voiceover, even though I imported the rom.

Replying to @DiegoGomez: Yeah. DoubleTalk is not even appearing in my settings at all. It keeps saying thI had to reboot my phone in order for VO to see the voices. So far it's pretty hit and miss, but it does mostly work.

I was able to get it on my main phone, the iPhone 16. However, a couple of other devices refused to work with it, the iPhone 12, and the iPhone X, so not sure what’s going on. The thing won’t even speak at all either, and it seems like the poor audio quality you get with some of the voices hasn’t quite been resolved like it has within the NVDA add-on. Anyone else facing this problem? Also, sometimes there is some static similar to the problem with Eloquence currently on the iOS 27 beta. I was luckily able to get this working on my MacBook Air M4.

Yes, I eventually was able to get it working. Maybe I should host this stuff on my Google Drive as well. For now, if you wanna get. BestSpeech working on your android devices, here is all that you need. You’ll need to load the DLL through the engine settings first.
