There is a group that I am familiar with that does Braille training. They have courses for people who don't know anything about Braille but would like to learn it, to reading and writing in contracted braille. It is an English braille, and you would be learning unified English Braille (UEB) which is the format that's used in English speaking countries. The center works with people who live both and and out of the United States. It's a remote learning class, but it is an actual class where you would eventually record yourself reading and submitting assignments to an instructor. The instructor grades the assignments and gives you feedback. It's all done remote and mostly by email. If you want to check into the class and see what they do, the organization is called the East Bay Center for the blind. There is no cost for the course. Their website is www.eastbaycenterfortheblind.org. Good luck.
