I think the venue matters; next audio is about that. But in some places I would agree with you.

I think your sample size might be a bit small to extrapolate out to the broader society. And while I myself will admit to having 0% interest in AI generated music, as I find it to be all pretty much a waste of time. That being said, I do find the discussions around the Y and the reasons for those perceptions clearly more interesting than the music itself. I do absolutely agree with Doug about the situation. From my perspective, if it’s background music, couldn’t care less where it came from. But if I am actively engaging with a piece of music, I want that to come from a person‘s vocal cords, or musical instruments being played by human hands. I want to appreciate their skill and revel in the fact that I wish I had that talent. Generating music through a vocal prompt that literally every single person in the world could do just by speaking, is not a talent I appreciate.

Honestly, I don’t know which side I stand on because some people can really get AI to mimic and copy their voice

I do agree with you that money is the wrong reason to enter a field of art. One reason is, creativity is known to suffer under pressures and thrive under freedom. I learned about that, oddly enough, when Skype hired me for a week to visit their offices in Estonia under contract to help them improve the Windows and Mac accessibility of their product, before Microsoft absorbed it all. I heard a pool table in active use during work hours across the office floor and was surprised. They told me that they permitted such activities because the mind works in the background during things like that often enough. This was back in 2008.

Forgot to say, that would measure mass. :)

@AI wizard, to answer your question simply, no, I do not appreciate beat makers, loopers, and fakers etc. at or near the same level as I appreciate actual musicians and singer songwriters. That’s not to say, I have zero appreciation for them. Art appreciation is clearly not binary, that is to say there is a range of appreciation. And as another aspect related to appreciation, I don’t just appreciate the talents of artists based around the fact that it’s something I can’t do. I also appreciate the hard work and effort that they put into, not only the creative process, but the effort into developing their performances. All of which usually tends to give their music more depth and meaning. And yes, I may only be the single person here on the entire app that apparently doesn’t like AI generated music lol
