Wow, sounds like fun. :D
It is. It’s very fun and a good exercise too

I do a lot of walking in place and jogging in place for exercise, as well as several forms of jumping jacks. So maybe learning los machetes won't be so difficult.

Once you get the hang of the weave, it should be very easy and a good cardio exercise. I used to just walk on the spot, but now I started doing los machetes and I find it’s a lot more fun. It feels more like a dance than a repetitive boring routine. And it actually is. A lot of schools teach it this way, a lot of Mexican dance classes teach it probably a little bit differently. Unfortunately I don’t know the actual traditional way of doing it. The traditional way and requires using a lot of heavy stomping which I said before was zapateado.

Schools teach it this way but sometimes they teach it a little bit differently but some of the movements are still the same such as the weave as I like to call it and the side step.

The side step may be similar to the side jack. :D That's a great workout by the way. Thanks for the explanations.

Well you don’t really have to jump when you do it, you just step while waving your arm in the air and make sure that the arm that you’re waving is the same one as the direction you are stepping. And yes, guys would do this dance with real machetes clicking their blades together as they do these steps. I wonder how in the world they kept from hurting themselves trying to click the blades underneath their leg and stuff like that.

Good question. I might look that up. Maybe scars were viewed as symbols of honor and courage in that culture; that is, if they accidentally cut themselves while dancing. I've actually been considering taking dance classes. But I think it would be awkward now. I only know four or five old dances including the kickworm and the running man from the 80s and 90s. :D Before when I was sighted, it was simple to learn through observation. Maybe someday.
