I don't think anything, any other spirit, etc., has any special power on this day as compared to any other day. I believe the powers beyond us, both God and non God, require an invitation before they have power over us. I believe ouija boards may provide an invitation that I choose not to provide. But giving out treats in kindness to children does not invite evil and does directly invite happiness. Playing horror movies for entertainment also does not invite evil, I would say.

Funny thing is, this week is the first time in my over 55 years of memory when I noticed anyone trying to challenge the Halloween festivities at all.

To me, it's never been a celebration of anything and I've never heard anyone call it that. It's a tradition. The word Halloween does translate to "hallow's eve" though, so I have long interpreted that in a similar way to "mardi gras," which is a tradition of eating all you can before stopping.
