Of course I can't speak to your situation; but years ago, I started hearing the word "darvo" for things like what you describe. That's an acronym, coined by a psychologist I believe, for "deny, attack, reverse victim and offender." I've seen it out here sometimes but probably not to the degree you describe. Sometimes I think it is done deliberately, but I also think sometimes people don't realize they're doing it because their own minds fail to grasp what they themselves have done. Interesting question in any case.
