  I certainly think it can be a cathartic coping mechanism. Having lost your eyesight as part of some unseen yet divine plan is a far easier pill to swallow than having to accept the random and unpredictable nature of life, as well as the grim reality that not one of us on this planet is immune to being afflicted with any disability. But the truth is, if what you gain from going through a traumatic experience from that is a feeling of purpose and spiritual awakening, and if you in turn strive to be a better and more empathic person as a result, then who is anyone to judge?
