My first date, back in the 80's, and I think most women in whom I've taken romantic interest since, have been on the larger side; not because I specifically seek that, but because other things about them made them immediately draw me. Because of this, at some point I think I half-consciously started thinking, on being told a woman was larger, that maybe I should find out more instead of feeling any concern lol. But my best memory on this subject might be the girl on whom I had an immense crush in late high school. I don't think she was large at all, but a friend of mine who attended the same summer program she and I did said, "There's something, off, about her." I was terribly shy, which prevented my success at dating her I think; but I definitely remember thinking when he said that, "Ok then, no problem, think what you like; less competition. I know who I want!!!"

Hi Angie! I do get pretty aggravated with the way overweight people are treated. You truly never know what’s going on with someone. Some people have medical conditions, some take steroids or medications for depression that increase their appetite, and genetics can play a role too. And honestly, some people just enjoy eating! Regardless of the reason, someone’s weight is really nobody’s business but their own and their doctor’s. And voices really do lie! I don’t think you can tell shit about someone’s appearance just by hearing their voice. I’m definitely someone who appreciates a nice voice, but that doesn’t mean it tells me anything about what the person looks like. I know a guy who sounds like he’s 6’8ā€ and could pick up a truck, but in reality, he’s about 4’10ā€! šŸ˜‚ You also asked whether we call people out when they say things we disagree with or just let it slide. Honestly, I’d probably only call someone out in person. There are plenty of things people post that I don’t agree with, but I’m not going to spend my day commenting on everyone’s posts trying to convince grown adults how to think. I used to want to change the world. These days, I just take people at face value, pay attention to what they say and how they treat others, and decide for myself what I think of their character.

Replying toĀ  @BostonBeanstalk: Hi Angie! I do get pretty aggravated with the way overweight people are treated.

I absolutely agree about voices and body size being largely, pardon the pun, orthogonal to one another: Big voices in small frames, small voices in huge frames, etc., happen all the time. I say largely though, because I've always figured that there must be an audible component to the voice that changes with resonance. I just think it's probably hard to perceive, because we mostly hear the vibrations of the throat and not of the chest, abdomen, etc., when someone talks.

That’s an interesting point! I definitely think there are physical factors that can influence how someone’s voice sounds, including resonance. And if I’m being honest, there are times when I hear someone’s voice and imagine them being a larger person. But I’ve also learned that those impressions can be completely wrong! It’s fascinating how we create an image of someone in our minds based on their voice, only to find out they look nothing like we imagined. šŸ˜‚

I've just learned never to go by voice. Voices can, and too often are, deceiving.
