Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I like these types of answers because it allows me to interact more with the ideas presented. I've heard so many different theories about the day that God created humans. Some take it as a literal 24-hour day, others say it was an era, etc. Some say that since Adam and Eve were imagers of God, they weren't subject to time the same way we mortals are. But I like your answer.

I'm sure God had included the years before the fall. The reason I think that is the context in this passage: Genesis 5:1-2-3-4-5 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. The Bible even mentioned the time before the woman was created there with the name Adam, and then stated that all the years of Adam were 930 years. So yes, I do believe that 930 years also includes the years before the fall. It's possible for the woman to be deceived not too long after both of them were created, and the time between Adam's creation and the woman's creation was not long either. Also, this is just a thought: if people could live that long back then, I wonder if the population can be huge compared to our time.

Wow, that's interesting to know. But I wonder if that includes the time leading up to the fall. Nine hundred and thirty years doesn't seem like much for someone who originally possessed conditional immortality.

This is the verse that records the years of Adam: Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. And this is the verse that records the years of Noah: Genesis 9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died. And this is the verse that records the years of Methuselah: Genesis 5:27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.

How long have you been reading the Bible, Tracey? Also, how was Adam's age determined and compared to Noah's age at death? I knew about Methuselah. We have a tree here in California named after him that is thousands of years old. :D

I was wondering why you added 100 to the calculation—I didn't know you were having Shem in mind and ended up adding the years of Shem in the calculation also. Btw, If you check from Genesis 11, the first few generations after Noah still lived pretty long lives even after the flood. God did intervene, but he let the gene die out gradually—not sudden. The thing I find to be interesting is that Noah lived even longer than Adam, and he ended up being the person that had the second longest life-span; the first was Methuselah: 969 years.

Noah died 350 years after the flood, Shem died 502 years after the flood and Abraham died 467 years after the flood. So Noah died first and lived to 950, Abraham died after and lived to the age of 175 and Shem died last at the age of 600. The reason is that in Genesis 6, God reduced the lifespan of men born after the flood. Shem died 35 years after Abraham

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I overlooked the fact that Shem was born before the flood and erroneously included 100 years to my calculations. So Shem was 100 when he begat Arpachshad, two years after the flood. I knew my math was off somewhere. That sort of helps me see and think differently about Abraham.

Check the Bible. It might not turn out to be what we think!

Noah’s life must’ve been pretty sad after the flood because he outlived his many outlived his children. His grandchildren is a great grandchildren, etc..

Wow! Seems like I should keep this trivia thing going! Let's see what everyone else has.

Shem died first Noah died second Abraham died third
