The latest insanity in the blind community

I don’t think this has anything to do with blind people. Cited people wander on the tracks constantly and get hit.

I’m absolutely terrified of trains like I hate being anywhere close to 1 because they’re so loud and so big and I can’t hear anything other than the train so it freaks me out. But yeah, hopefully it wasn’t intentional.

Oh, there should definitely be safeguards in place for anybody and everybody. So did they really say that putting guard rails on train tracks is cuddling? Well clearly these people don’t give a fuck about anybody’s lives. They’re just absorbed with making their money doing their job and whatever shit is spewed out of their mouth well so be it I guess.

I don’t understand why folks wanna bash NFB so much. They’ve done a lot for the blind community whether people choose to recognize that or not. There are good and bad about every blindness, consumer organization. NFB is not the enemy here. I choose to be part of the solution instead of just being part of the problem. Creating drama and problems will not get anyone the results that will lead to a desired outcome.

In reference to the stated Pizza Hut story, which I know is going back a little bit in the thread. But, I’m fairly sure what is being referenced is the dominoes case, and not Pizza Hut. And while I’m not a stated proponent, or opponent of the NFB, that specific case should be viewed with more contextual understanding. The NFB initially turned in multiple bug requests, that were completely ignored, before sending out a legal action threat. The reason it became national news was because Domino’s reply was to say they could not fix their app and website because of the financial burden. They stated it would cost close to a half $1 million to change a tiny inaccessible delivery widget on their website and app. It was that ridiculous statement, and flat out lie, that caused the escalation. And believe me, as someone who works in accessibility, that which it could’ve been fixed for less than 10 grand.

That makes sense. Because in that case, it is discrimination because if it were just a simple bug that everybody was experiencing, they’d probably fix it no problem.

Exactly. And that’s where they navigated away from the training is that now they’re focussing on making the other people feel wanted and respected.

I thought the NFB lost the Domino’s case.

No, although I did have to look up the details to verify my memory. The NFB was actually not the plaintiff in the dominoes case. It was an individual that brought that case. She was assisted some by the NFB in the initial court case, but then they became much more involved during the appeal process. But they were still not listed as a plaintiff. All that to say, Domino’s did lose the initial case, and lost the appeal as well. It was ruled the dominoes website had to be compliant with the ADA

That makes sense. I mean, if we all want to be treated equal then that’s what has to happen I suppose.
