Incorrect about low vision individuals not using VoiceOver. That’s BS. I use it all the time. I can switch between Zoom and voiceover. But I cannot go completely without VO.

These blind influencers on TikTok get way more assistance from cited people than we really know! I also believe that people from the national Federation of the Blind get a crap ton of help from cider folks, but never will admit it! Including their president!

I bet Molly Burke has a lot more vision than she lets on.

I can see both sides of this arguement, but when you talked about people sticking the blind label on things, it reminded me of a time when I listened to a radio show about a supposed blind chocolatier. Turns out he was using his magnifier to read things and identify different colours etc. I was hoping to find out about some completely non-visual techniques and if I'd known that I wouldn't have bothered wasting my time listening to it.

No hate here dear. But I am low vision. Overall, I think that too many people get caught up with the word blind. What does it really mean. I believe it is a general category to describe someone who has some level of vision loss. It's just a general word. A general category of people with vision loss. And we all know that vision loss is on a spectrum. Like anything else. Ask 20 people what does the word mean and you will literally get 20 different answers. I am low vision. Do I use the word blind sometimes? Absolutely. I use it because it seems like it's the only word that some people understand. Many people don't understand low vision, visually impaired, site impaired, partially cited, etc. etc. etc. Some people believe that either you can see, or you can't see. Lights on. Or lights off. So when they ask me sometimes, I just say yes, I am blind. What do you think low vision means? Even though I do not have total vision loss, please don't think that low vision people and their vision loss is not significant. I mean, don't think that this vision loss is not important because it is. I do have some vision. But, I cannot see faces, sometimes I think that lights are on and they're not or I think that they are not on and they are, I can not see colors, I can not read print, I had to stop driving, I cannot use my iPhone without VoiceOver, I cannot use my computer without JAWS, I need to use a white cane, now, I cannot even see the giant E on the eye chart, I bumped into things, I spill things because I can't see when the cup is getting full, I've cut my finger before because I can't see the knife when cutting, I have bump dots all over my house, I use all of the apps for the blind, as you call it, because I need the assistance, I sometimes have to get so-called cited people to come in and help me identify things so that I could put different types of markers on them so that I can identify them later, i sometimes talk to people who are not there because the person has walked away and I did not know it, I have stumbled down steps because I cannot see the steps, I am only 5'5", but my head has hit Overhead things because I did not see them. Is that blind enough for you?

As a high partial who reads braille, uses screen readers, and uses a cane most of the time, but can pass for a sightling regularly, the majority of this was awful to read/listen to. My issue is with visual processing, so even though I can see quite a bit it takes an insane amount of energy for me to parse what I see so I usually don't rely on my vision if I can help it. I have used this ability to pass to frequently prove points to sightlings about how most blind/low vision/partially sighted/whatever new term we coined next week are equally capable and competent, if given the right skills and practice. I've used the vision I do have, to help out so many of those who don't have any over the years because I can conceptualize how difficult it is. I've gotten cited friends to sign up for services like Be My Eyes and Aira so we have more resources. I've been a consistent advocate for visually impaired people, regardless of how much site they do or do not have. I feel badly that so many of you have had awful experiences with condescending people with low vision, but like also? @Nestor You assume a massive quality of life difference, and that might be your personal experience, but I can definitely say I don't have the audacity to tell anyone else, regardless of disability that their quality of life is better or worse than mine because you know, I'm not them and they're not me. @Brandon The halffees, V-I ones, I can't stand them, and they wonder why we don't like them so much. That's a wild amount of generalization, but hey, loud and clear my guy, loud and clear. I'm aware that you all aren't speaking specifically about me, but myself, and others like me hear this shit and think, well damn, why would I want to advocate for or support any of that nonsense? To those of you who were not out here acting like this, thank you, and if there's ever anything I can do to help you out or make your life easier in anyway, please reach out to me.

Simply put, light and dark blue are both shades of the same color, no matter how either shade feels about it

I don’t really see a need to separate or divide, pun intended lol. I’ve been through the range of vision loss, legally blind, partially sighted and totally blind now. It ultimately depends on the person and their attitudes and convictions. Everybody is different. If u were to split totals from partials or low vision people there would still be other things differentiating within those subgroups. This total is diabetic, this partial is diabetic, this total is hispanic while this total is Asian. This partial is autistic and also has this or that..I am just saying that every person has their own life experiences and not everybody fits into a specific category or sub group.

I used to think this way. Now I believe people with low vision are simply at a different intersection of disability. They’re not cited enough for people and not blind enough for us totals, unless they lose their remaining sight, which is a core part of identity
