Matthew J is playing guitar on this one. He had only just gotten this particular specimen and this was one of the first things we recorded together, and also with the new instrument I'd gone with him to choose. For so many reasons, this stands out as a special recording to me, even though I am my own worst critic and have so many areas in which I think I could have done better.

Oy! Stop criticising your performance! It was a really good time! I sometimes think the best renditions come from random moments, when you don’t really sit out to make something that’s really awesome. You just kind of set up the gear and record stuff and see what happens. When you go in trying to record something, I think sometimes the results can be underwhelming. No idea why this is.

It was a great performance and I think that for all singers it’s the little vocal nuances that make voices sound interesting, I mean these days you have AIs that are pitch perfect and hit every note dead on and they sound overproduced and soleless.
